Yahoo Site Explorer is a free tool that can allow you to get information about the data that Yahoo has on any site. This includes the pages that are in its index as well as all web pages that have links to the site.

Yahoo has typically kept their information up to date and therefore has become a goto place for SEO experts to get information about various sites.

You can quickly get to site explorer by typing in commands from yahoo.com. If you use site: or link: before a website address, you will get the pages indexed for a site and the incoming links for the site respectively. For example, searching for site:yahoo.com will redirect you to site explorer and show you the pages that yahoo has indexed for the yahoo.com home page.

Google Webmaster Tool

Google offers a number of free tools, but one of our favorites is the Webmaster Tool. This gives you valuable insight into what Google has actually done with your site.

It can give you various metrics such as how often your site is presented in the search results against how often people have clicked on it. It can also show you which keywords they have associated with your site and any errors they encountered while robotically exploring through your site.

There are a couple of different ways to get access to this information, but the most frequently used method is to put a special file on your website with a code that google gives you. This verifies that you are the owner of the website and allows you to view the data they have about your site.

Keyword research is one of the most important things you will do when building your SEO strategy. For this, Google offers a free extension to their AdWords PPC offering that allows you to search for keyword ideas and get an idea of how many people are actively searching for certain keywords.
